There comes a moment in life when you realize that the source of your struggles and difficulties can be traced back to one fundamental mistake: placing your faith in human beings instead of God. This revelation hit me recently with stunning clarity, forcing me to confront the ways I had misplaced my trust throughout my life.
For years, I put my complete faith in people – in parents who couldn’t provide the guidance I needed, in relationships that left me wanting, and most destructively, in myself and my own limited understanding. I prayed to God, yes, but I still gave priority to human opinions and validation. I now understand this was my greatest error.
The Bible warns us explicitly: “Cursed is the man who puts his trust in mankind.” These words, which I had read countless times before, suddenly took on new meaning. I realized that my inability to reach the level of success and prosperity I sought stemmed directly from this misplaced trust – in myself, in others, in human solutions rather than divine guidance.
True trust in God requires something that many of us, myself included, find incredibly difficult: complete surrender. It demands blind faith and letting go of our need to control outcomes through human means. It means making God not just a priority, but THE priority – above work, above relationships, above our own understanding.
I spent years caught up in human relationships, in physical desires, in worldly pursuits, making idols out of people and situations that were never meant to bear that weight. When we elevate humans – whether ourselves or others – to the position that only God should occupy, we set ourselves up for inevitable disappointment and failure.
The truth I’ve finally grasped is that no human being can provide the love and fulfillment we seek, because we were created by God and for God. Only divine love can truly satisfy the soul. When we understand this at its deepest level, we find a freedom that no human relationship or achievement can provide.
This realization brings both regret and hope – regret for the years spent chasing human solutions to spiritual needs, but hope in knowing that God’s blessings are still available when we finally turn to Him with our whole hearts. When God blesses us, it comes in miraculous and lasting ways that far exceed anything we could arrange for ourselves.
Today, I’m learning to redirect my faith where it always should have been – in God alone. This isn’t just about religious practice; it’s about a fundamental reorientation of trust and expectation. It’s about understanding that true peace, prosperity, and fulfillment can only come from the divine source that created us.
The journey isn’t easy, and old habits of misplaced trust die hard. But I’m convinced that this understanding – that God alone deserves our complete faith – is the key to breaking free from the cycles of disappointment and frustration that mark so many lives.
In the end, the message is simple but profound: Put your faith in God, not in man. Everything else flows from this essential truth.
