In some of my most vulnerable moments, I have placed my trust in doctors, believing they had my best interests at heart. Sadly, I’ve been burned by many who project an air of care and compassion but are actually more interested in profit than healing. These doctors use polished public relations tactics to win patients’ trust, only to saddle them with unnecessary treatments and enormous bills.
In private medical institutions, this lack of integrity has become all too common. Instead of taking a gradual, patient-focused approach to treatment, many doctors rush into aggressive treatment plans, maximizing costs. This behavior exploits people when they are at their weakest, financially and emotionally.
My experience with my mother’s cancer treatment reaffirmed this harsh reality. We eventually turned to a government hospital, where the doctors were genuinely focused on healing. These doctors, who chose to stay in public service after their training, showed integrity, offering quality care without the financial strain that often comes with private care.
Integrity in healthcare is not a luxury—it is essential. We must recognize and support the doctors who remain true to their calling, whose motivation is to heal, not profit. These doctors, often found in public hospitals, are the real heroes, standing as beacons of hope and honesty in a system that too often loses its way.
