We Don’t Own Anything: Surrendering to a Higher Power

It’s easy to think that we’re in control of our lives—our careers, relationships, finances, health. We put so much effort into managing every aspect, believing that if we work hard enough, things will go our way. But when life takes unexpected turns, that illusion of control shatters. I used to feel frustrated with God when things didn’t go my way, whether it was a setback in my career or conflicts with family and friends. It took me years to realize that nothing truly belongs to us—not our loved ones, our possessions, or even our health.

Everything we have is given to us by God’s mercy, and in the blink of an eye, it can all be taken away. Yet, instead of viewing challenges as punishments, I’ve come to see them as spiritual awakenings. Tough times can lead us down a path of enlightenment, forcing us to confront the reality that we are not in control—something far greater is at work.

We shouldn’t wait for illness or crisis to recognize this truth. Instead, let’s cultivate gratitude for all that God has given us, knowing that nothing is guaranteed. Don’t fret over the temporary; stay detached, do what’s honorable, and trust in the higher power that guides us all.

In the end, life’s not about holding on tightly, but learning to let go and trust the journey.
